She Wore It To A Funeral
Aug 10, 2026She Wore It To A Funeral
A friend shared something with me that really made an impact on me.
She went to a funeral. Someone she loved. And underneath her clothes, she wore her Do Hard Things shirt.
For strength.
Nobody in that room saw it. There was no one to impress. No conversation to start. No photo. It did nothing for anybody in that building except her.
That's when I understood what we're actually making.
People message me all the time. First 5K. First half. First marathon. They almost always mention they had the shirt on, and I love every one of those.
But hers is the one that changed how I think about this. Because the hardest thing you do this year probably isn't a race. It's a room you don't want to walk into.
The shirt doesn't do the work. It's cotton. What it does is remind you what you decided before you walked in there.
That's armor. Armor makes you feel powerful and willing to step out.

And when people can see it, it does the other job. Somebody reads it at the gym or at a start line and asks what it means. Now you're talking about the hard thing you're in the middle of — sometimes out loud for the first time. And sometimes the person asking is the one who needed to hear it, because he's been putting something off for a year.
That's being a lighthouse. Inspiring others through your inspired action.
One thing you should know about this gear: my wife Lacy designs and makes every piece of it, in house. It isn't pulled off a rack somewhere.
Now look at the calendar. Summer's closing out. The kids go back to school in a couple weeks and everybody's schedule tightens back up. This is a season of focus.
This is Hard Thing Season. Four months left in the year, enough time to do something real and finish the year strong.
Pick your hard thing. Then gear up for it.
